The main objective of this project is to introduce learners in primary schools to code.
What skills and resources were you able to draw from the community for this project?
We have partnerships with some schools and NGO's to train, up skill and support volunteers in order to do the same to ensure continuity and a wider reach of the project.
The challenges
Many learners in township schools are affected by a digital divide which results in them becoming late adopters of digital technologies. Through this project, we want to bring coding to primary school children to enable them to become partakers in the digital world.
Addressing the challenges
We have made consistent interactions with about 800 learners from different communities in the two years in operation. The training of more trainers to continue the work is a clarion call to action of this work.
The achievements
We have managed to reach about 700 learners on a weekly basis. Our learners came second in two coding competitions in 2018 and 2019.
