Karen

This is the story of my life. The journey that I travelled, from the suffering of self-rejection and depression, to depend on faith for developing self-acceptance, self-compassion, and gratitude. This mind-shift enabled me to SOAR.

What skills and resources were you able to draw from the community for this project?

In the participatory action learning and action research we conducted, the community participants have contributed to my healing, making me aware of the essence of having faith, hope, and love. At a shelter for the homeless, we co-created a pathway to learning for holistic development, including the domains of spiritual, personal and professional development. These are essential elements needed for contributing to the bigger picture of creating a common good for all.

The challenges

I wish to inspire people who are adopted, who may suffer from a sense of self-rejection, by sharing the journey.

Addressing the challenges

Since I compiled my story, it has healed myself and inspired those I share it with. I will continue the journey and compile another story to share the life lessons I am learning.

The achievements

In affiliation with and rewarded by the Global University of Lifelong Learning, the Bachelor Professional Pathway to Holistic Development enabled the participants to move from dependence to independence. We used a self-generated and integrated program to support spiritual healing, development of life skills and social entrepreneurship to reach spiritual, personal and professional viability. This year some of the participants will reach a Degree level to reward the hard work of action learning during Bachelor Professional Pathway. Of significance is that this Pathway is designed to cascade into the community and enable those who learn to share it with others who wish to find change for the common good.
